FBC Vision: (what we are)
A community of God’s people, each one committed to following Jesus to be made a new creation in Him.
The above vision statement can be summed up in three words: Belong, Believe, Become.
Too often in the past the Church has done it backwards, asking people to become, believe, and then finally allowing them to belong. The Church has asked individuals to become something, to change themselves somehow, to clean their life up before the Church will be involved with them. Then the Church has gone to great lengths to make sure that the individual has correct beliefs. Only then has the Church engaged in relationship with the individual.
At First Baptist, we seek to reverse that order and follow the example of Jesus. He first engaged people in relationship as they were, then led them to a point of believing in Him as Savior, and finally began to lead them into a changed life. We believe that by engaging fellow believers and the non-believing community around us in real relationships we can help each other and the non-believer come to a better or a new relationship with Jesus as Lord, believing in His power for salvation. Only in relationship with Jesus can the power of God become active in our lives; and only then can we be changed into something new, the new creation He intends each of us to be.
Belong A community of God’s people,
John 13:34-35
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
Believe each one committed to following Jesus
Galatians 2:20
“I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me. So I live my life in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
Become to be made a new creation in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:17
“What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!”
